What the job includes

  1. Carpet off

    Carpet, pad and staples come up, and every step is checked for squeaks and loose parts.

  2. Treads and risers

    Hardwood treads cut to fit each step, with risers in stain-grade wood or painted white.

  3. Nosing and landings

    Landing nosing fitted so the floor flows over the top step without a bump.

  4. Handrails

    Handrails refinished or replaced so the wood tones match the new treads.

  5. Refinishing

    Existing treads sanded by hand, stained and coated to match the floor.

Can the stairs match my new floor?

Yes. Treads can be stained to the floor color, and the landing nosing is fitted so the floor runs right onto the stairs.

Are hardwood stairs slippery?

Finished treads are smoother than carpet. A satin sheen helps, and so does a stair runner if you have kids or older dogs.

Can you fix a squeaky staircase?

Often. Loose treads get secured before anything new goes on, which is easiest while the carpet is already off.
